For Canadian sole proprietors

NorthOS features

NorthOS is bookkeeping for Canadian sole proprietors, built around the forms you actually file: the T2125, the GST/HST return and, in Québec, the combined GST/HST and QST return. Here is what it does, one feature at a time.

Feature pages

  • Québec GST and QST

NorthOS keeps the 5% GST and 9.975% QST apart on every sale and purchase, handles the Quick Method on both taxes, and prepares one GST/HST and QST return for Revenu Québec.

  • Maker inventory and cost of goods sold

Track materials, products and production batches, then get your T2125 Part 3D cost of goods sold: opening inventory, purchases and closing inventory. Built for Canadian makers.

  • Invoicing

Create invoices that suggest the GST/HST or QST for your client's province, show each tax on its own line, send as a PDF or a Stripe card link, and book as income when paid.

  • GST/HST returns

NorthOS tracks the GST/HST you charge and pay, watches the $30,000 small supplier threshold, and works out your return under the Quick Method or the regular method you elected.

  • T2125 software

Every expense mapped to its CRA T2125 line as you enter it, with a T2125 preview and CSV or PDF export.

  • Multiple businesses

Separate books and a T2125 for each business under one login, with a Portfolio view across all of them.

Receipt scanning

Snap a receipt on your phone or upload a photo or PDF on the web. NorthOS reads the vendor, date, total and GST/HST and files it to a T2125 line for your approval. You can also forward receipts by email or import them from Google Drive.

Bank connection and CSV import

Connect a bank or credit card account in the web app, or import a CSV export from RBC, TD, BMO, CIBC, Scotiabank, PayPal, Stripe, Square, Shopify, Etsy, eBay, Amazon Seller, Wave or QuickBooks Self-Employed. Imported rows wait in a review queue until you approve them, and statement reconciliation shows anything missing.

Mileage log

Log business trips with date, destination, purpose and kilometres, and export the logbook as CSV or PDF. The business kilometres in your logbook are the ones used for your vehicle claim.

North, the AI assistant

Ask North about your own numbers or Canadian tax rules, or tell it to log an expense, and confirm the card it shows you before anything is saved.

Web and phone

NorthOS runs in the browser at app.northos.ca and as an app for iPhone and Android. A few jobs, such as connecting a bank and importing a CSV, are done in the web app.
