Know what you earned, what you owe CRA, and which clients still owe you.
NorthOS is built for Canadian freelancers and independent contractors who need invoice tracking, GST/HST visibility, and clean T2125-ready records — without paying for software built for accountants.
Freelancing is hard enough without the bookkeeping chaos
Late invoices are killing your cash flow.
When you have three clients and one goes 60 days overdue, everything gets uncertain — tax set-asides, what you can spend, whether you need to chase or write it off. NorthOS shows every unpaid invoice, aging balance, and expected payment in one place.
You don't know if you've hit $30,000 yet.
The GST/HST threshold sounds simple until you're juggling multiple clients, some paying irregularly and some in USD. Missing it means back-paying GST you never collected — out of your own pocket. NorthOS tracks your running total in real time so you know where you stand before CRA does.
You're not sure how much to set aside for tax.
Gross revenue is not take-home pay. Between income tax and GST/HST, a significant portion of every invoice belongs to CRA the moment it arrives. NorthOS shows you your safe-to-spend number after tax obligations are accounted for.
Your expenses are scattered when tax season hits.
Phone, internet, software, home office, professional development — you probably qualify for more deductions than you realize. NorthOS categorizes every expense to the correct T2125 line as you go, so filing is a download, not a scramble.
Your needs are simple. Your software shouldn't feel enterprise.
Wave and QuickBooks are built for businesses with employees, inventory, and accountants on retainer. NorthOS is built for one person running a service business who wants to stay organized and file cleanly.

Invoice Tracking & Accounts Receivable
See every outstanding invoice, days overdue, and total amount owed at a glance. Know exactly who owes you and when to follow up — without a separate tool.
GST/HST Threshold Tracker
Your running revenue total updates every time you log income. NorthOS flags you when you're approaching $30,000 — before you cross it and before registration becomes mandatory.
Tax Set-Aside Calculator
Every time income comes in, NorthOS calculates your estimated income tax and GST/HST owing and shows you what's actually yours to spend. No more surprise tax bills.
T2125-Ready Expense Tracking
Log expenses by photo, voice, or manual entry. Every transaction maps automatically to the correct T2125 line — home office, software, phone, professional fees — so your year-end workpapers are ready when you need them.
USD Clients? No Problem.
Invoice in USD, get paid in USD. NorthOS converts at CRA-accepted annual average rates and keeps the original foreign amount on record. No manual currency math.
How it works
Three steps to bookkeeping that actually makes sense.
Receipt photo, voice note, or manual entry. North AI categorizes everything to the right T2125 line and tracks every outstanding invoice.

Know what's actually yours to spend
When you freelance, every invoice that lands looks like income. But part of it already belongs to the CRA. Safe-to-Spend is the number NorthOS shows you after it sets that part aside.
As each invoice is marked paid, NorthOS reads the amount alongside your province and business profile and estimates three things automatically:
The income tax that income will attract at your marginal rate.
Your CPP contributions on self-employment earnings, where you pay both the employee and employer portions.
The GST/HST (or QST) you collected on that invoice and will owe at filing time.
Those estimates move into a running set-aside total, and NorthOS shows you the remainder: your Safe-to-Spend balance. It is the amount you can draw against without borrowing from a future tax bill. The number updates as you invoice and as you log expenses, since deductible costs lower the tax you will eventually owe.
Your chequing balance is not your take-home pay. Safe-to-Spend turns gross revenue into a number you can actually plan around. For the full thinking behind it, read Your bank balance is lying to you.
